A very nuanced article from Liz Ryan, which can be interpreted in many different ways. The way I look at it, that if you are a professional wanting to grow, then during the interview its as important for you to size up your manager as it is for the manager to understand you.

Fearful managers want to hire fearful people. You know this too well if you’ve ever taken a job with a fearful manager before, and learned to your dismay that the manager hated your confidence more than anything else they hated about you.
